PORTLAND, Ore. — Lafayette Dorsey scored 15 of his 21 points in the first half as the Pacific men's basketball team jumped out early and cruised to a 65-57 victory over Portland on Saturday night for its first conference win.

Jahlil Tripp added 17 points and 11 rebounds for Pacific (11-8, 1-3 West Coast Conference), which has won four in a row against Portland. Dorsey and Tripp each made three of the Tigers' eight 3-pointers.

Pacific led by as many as 16 in the first half and built a 34-27 advantage at the break. Dorsey was 5-of-7 shooting with three 3-pointers. Portland cut the deficit to two points four times before the 14-minute mark of the second half but couldn't take the lead.

Marcus Shaver Jr. scored 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting to lead the Pilots (7-11, 0-3 WCC), who have lost four straight.

COLLEGE MEN’S TENNIS

UC Davis 4, Pacific 2

At Davis, the Tigers opened their season with a loss to the Aggies. The day was supposed to be a doubleheader, with Pacific facing Fresno State after UC Davis, but the nightcap was cancelled because of impending darkness.

Pacific got wins from freshman Philip Hjorth in the No. 2 singles match and junior Tadiwa Chinamo in the No. 4 singles. Both wins were straight-set victories.

Pacific will host Cal at noon Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

St. Mary’s 76, Reno-Bishop Manogue 35

At Orinda, freshman Tai Sherman had 21 points and eight assists, and senior Jada Moss scored 10 points as the Rams (12-4) routed the Miners (3-12) at the Miramonte Showcase. St. Mary’s plays at Modesto Christian on Monday night.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Brookside Christian 69, Elliot Christian 27

At Lodi, Nate Washington scored 12 points as the Eagles (3-15, 2-2 Central California Athletic Alliance) lost to the Knights (14-3, 4-0).
