The championship game of the 41st Stagg Delta Queens Tony Contreras Classic has been set. It’ll be the Edison High girls basketball team against Lathrop, for all the marbles.

Both the Vikings and Spartans won their semifinal matches Friday, with Edison beating Livingston 75-42 and Lathrop knocking off Laguna Creek 65-40.

The two will play in today’s championship game at 6:30 p.m. at Stagg High.

For Edison (4-1), Kendra Banks led the way with 29 points. Teammate Joy Almendarez scored 14, and Daynesha Smart had 11.

In the win for the Spartans, Kiersten Constantino had 14 points while Kaysey Matela had 12 and Mary Cotton had 11.


Bear Creek 90, Reno 41

At the Rocklin tournament, Mya Blake scored 31 points to help the Bruins knock off Reno.

Sarah Ruiz added 15 points for Bear Creek (4-0), with Deyliana Lewis scoring 11 points and Andraya Perez putting up 10.

West 54, Chavez 30

At the Stagg tournament, Alexia Croffett scored 19 points and Ashely Chan had 15 to help the Wolf Pack (3-4) pick up a win over Chavez.

For Chavez (0-4), Navi Kol had 14 points.

McNair 72, Stagg 41

At the Stagg tournament, Danesah Thompson scored 33 points to lead the Eagles past host Stagg. Alayssia Townsell added 15 points for McNair (3-2), with Savanna Vanhsy putting up 14.


Lincoln 97, Elliot Christian 77

At the McDonald’s Classic tournament, Nick Jamora scored 28 points to lead Lincoln past Elliot Christian.

George Papadopulos added 15 points for the Trojans, with Billy Whitting contributing 13 points and Chris Smith scoring 10.

For Elliot Christian (9-6), Zrebric Humphrey scored 21 points with Roy Itcovichi adding 19 points and Nate Gotgotao-Washington scoring 14.

Cordova 62, West 41

At the McDonald’s Classic tournament, Elias Woodward scored 12 points and teammate David Neal Hickman added 10 in a loss for the Wolf Pack (0-6).

Cathedral Catholic 66, St. Mary’s 49

At Carmichael, Grant Jory scored 11 points in a loss for St. Mary’s (3-4) at the the Father Barry Jesuit tournament,. The Rams will finish tournament play today at 2 p.m.


Wood 2, St. Mary’s 1

At Vacaville, Donald Wuellner scored on a PK in a loss for the Rams (3-1).

Venture Academy 2, Chavez 0

At Venture Academy, Luiz Arevalo scored both of the Mustangs’ goals, one on an assist from Joel Garcia, to lead Venture Academy (3-2) past Chavez.

Goalkeeper Hunter Wright made four saves in the win for the Mustangs.


Bear Creek Invitational

At the Bear Creek Invitational, Samantha Rodriguez earned a third-place finish for St. Mary’s.
