Mathew Phillips’ first multi-point game of his pro career highlighted a big day for the Stockton heat’s offense.

Phillips had a goal and an assist as the heat trounced the Ontario Reign 5-1 on Friday night in front of a crowd of 4,187 at Stockton Arena. Defenseman Oliver Kylington and Alan Quine each had two goals and an assist for the Heat (5-6-1), which begins a three-game road trip on Sunday in Ontario.

Phillips, a rookie forward, earned both his points in the first period as the heat outshot the Reign 18-5. Quine put Stockton ahead 1-0 just 3:21 into the game with a goal on assist from Kylington and Phillips. Phillips picked up an unassisted goal at 16:21 when he took control of an Ontario turnover and put a shot over the right shoulder pad of Reign goaltender Cal Petersen.

Kylington put Stockton up 3-0 with a backhanded offering in the second period, and he and Quine scored in the third.

Stockton goaltender Jon Gillies stopped 21 of 22 shots to earn the win.


Delta 3, Diablo Valley 0

At Delta, the Mustangs swept 25-23, 25-8, 25-15 on sophomore night. Amilya Thompson hit .500 for the Mustangs (18-7, 11-4 Big 8) and had 17 kills, 18 digs and five aces. Alexis Trawick had five kills and two blocks, and hit .600.


Sierra 17, Delta 12

At Saratoga, the Mustangs (16-22) ended their 2018 season with a loss to the Wolverines in the first-round of the CCCAA Northern California Championships at West Valley College.

Ryan Westerterp scored three goals, and Logan Apley, Dalton Castro, Caden Nord and Matt Anderson each scored two goals for Delta. Josh Hamby added a goal.
