University of the Pacific’s volleyball team came very close to a big win against a Pac-12 team.

The Tigers won the first two games against Cal, but the Golden Bears rallied to escape with a 24-26, 22-25, 26-24, 15-11 win on Thursday at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley. Pacific (4-6) has lost three in a row, and will try to rebound in its home opener when it hosts Nevada at 1 p.m. Saturday at Spanos Center.

The Tigers stunned Cal (8-2) in the first game, trailing 24-23 and scoring the final three points. Kaitlyn Lines served an ace to finish off Cal.

Things looked even better for Pacific when it got up to two games, but Cal toughed it out to win a close third game and was on its way to the win.

Riley Patterson had 13 kills for Pacific and Riley Ramsey had 12. Lines had four aces, seven kills and 10 digs, Jadyn Leo had 23 digs and Gabby Leo led Pacific with 24 assists.

Carmen Anevelink had 18 kills for the Golden Bears.

Delta 3, Sacramento 1

At Sacramento, the Mustangs began Big 8 Conference play with a 25-20, 25-19, 24-26, 25-18 win over the Panthers. Kristie Plateau is interim head coach for Delta (7-2, 1-0) while Molly Mordaunt-Hummel is out on maternity leave.

Amilya Thompson had 19 assists, nine kills, five blocks, an ace and 17 digs. Angelique Stephanoff had 17 kills, two blocks, two aces and 11 digs, and Kelly Markham had six kills, four blocks, three aces and five digs for the Mustangs. Sacramento is 1-4, 0-1.

GIRLS GOLF

St. Mary’s 239, Lodi 268

At Woodbridge, sophomore Skyler May shot a two-under-par 35 for the Rams (5-0-1, 3-0 TCAL). She had three birdies and a bogey in the round.

GIRLS WATER POLO

McNair 14, Calaveras 11

At McNair, Karla Garcia had five goals to lead the Eagles (5-3). Leilani Jones had four goals, Angelica Tejeda had three and netminder Adriana Mora had 14 saves for McNair. Jamie Smith had five goals for Calaveras (1-1).

Lincoln 11, Oakdale 4

At Lincoln, Mackenzie Lincoln had four goals and teammate Annikah Lillie had three to lead the Trojans to a win over Oakdale.

Nicole Cottman, Mekenzie Dement, Jonica Hurles and Sydney Spencer also had scores for Lincoln (3-0).

BOYS WATER POLO

Calaveras 17, McNair 10

At McNair, Ramon Marquez had six goals for Calaveras (2-0). Jake Dorman had five goals and goalie Kris Momyer had 15 saves for the Eagles (2-6).

Lincoln 10, Oakdale 4

At Lincoln, Cooper Pyeatt had 12 saves for the Trojans (6-1). Adam Thomas, Jacob Thomas and Owen Sherman each had three goals and Joshua Cavero had one for Lincoln.

Bear Creek 7, Kimball 5

At Bear Creek, Adan Banks had three goals and Ethan Dennis had two for the Bruins (4-4), and Ethan McLaughlin had seven saves. Ethan Dennis had two goals and Joseph Gomez had nine saves for the Jaguars (2-4).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Linden 3, Golden Sierra 1

At Linden, the Lions dropped the first game and rallied to win 23-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-16 in its inaugural match in the Sierra Delta League. Katie Frink had 17 kills, Anna Lucostic had 30 assists, and Gabby Herrera 22 digs for Linden (5-4, 1-0). Golden Sierra is 5-6, 0-1.

Tracy 3, Manteca 0

At Tracy, the Bulldogs swept Manteca by scores of 25-14, 25-15, 25-11.

Cassie Corbett had 12 kills and seven digs for Tracy (13-3), with Natalie Laiolo adding nine kills, 14 assists and 11 digs. Dharshini Sridharan had 12 digs, and Tei Magaoay had 17 assists.
