The Stockton Storm FC Academy 07 Lightning U11 girls soccer team recently took second at the State Cup Champion flight, an eight-team tournament aimed at crowning the best competitive team in Northern California.

Stockton played the IR Academy 07G Purple team out of Elk Grove in the final, falling 2-1 in a match that went to penalty kicks after two scoreless overtime periods.

This Stockton Storm group has played together for three seasons, according to head coach Mike Marchesotti, improving from 17th in the state their first year to eighth last season and second this time around.

Marchesotti said the achievement is a testament to the team’s dedication to the sport.

“We continue to compete at the highest level each year,” Marchesotti said, “and that’s a tribute to the girls for all their hard work and commitment.”
