James Walker already had made a name for himself as a ball hawk for the Weston Ranch football team.

Walker, a senior, had two interceptions entering Friday’s game at Bear Creek High in Stockton. Well, Walker nabbed another pick, and is now tied for tops in the section with three interceptions. Not to mention, Weston Ranch cruised to a 71-14 victory.

But Walker was also an offensive force, taking carries as senior tailback Bryant Bowen Jr. rested an injured ankle. Walker averaged a whopping 28.2 yards per carry. He had five carries for 141 yards and two TDs, not to mention seven tackles on defense.

For his all-around effort, Walker was not only The Record’s Prep Football Week 2 MVP, but The Record’s High School Athlete of the Week, for Sept. 5-10.
