Lucas Theodore Held

Jan. 14, 1926 - Sept. 22, 2016

Lucas Theodore Held, lovingly referred to as "Luke Teddy", died peacefully at the age of 90 in his home in Stockton, CA, surrounded by family. Lucas was born in Beulah, ND, January 14, 1926. He graduated from Beulah High in 1944, and served in the Navy, stationed in the Philippines during WWII. His college career began at University of North Dakota, and then he finished his degree at St. Thomas Aquinas College in Minnesota. He moved to Prescott, Arizona, where he met and married

LaVerne Hall on January 9, 1953.

Lucas and LaVerne had nine children, moving from Prescott to Phoenix, then Coronado, CA, San Diego, CA, then settling in Stockton the summer of 1970.

Lucas was a gregarious man,

always up for a party or family gathering, champagne or a

Manhattan in hand, regaling us all with tales of North Dakota,

or a trip he took in the RV,

beginning a phrase with

"Now…" or the common one of "so on and so forth"! He could fix anything or build anything – it

might just take longer than expected. A great cook, a lover of almost any kind of food, he enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, and instilled in his children and grandchildren a strong faith, and a great love of family, music and laughter.

He is preceded in death by his parents Mike and Mary Held, and sister Carol (Sam). He is survived by his children Laura, Lucas (Ellen), Lynne, Leslie, Laurence (Jennifer), Louis (Nicki), Louise (Rick), Lance

(Reyna), and Loretta (Craig), five nieces, two great nieces,

fifteen grandchildren, and three

great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on November 5, 2016 at the home of Louis and Nicki Held from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to

Hospice of San Joaquin County or the VA Hospital in Palo Alto.
