Transient arrested after woman reports kidnapping

STOCKTON — A transient was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping after a woman reported she was forced to go with the man to his homeless camp on the Calaveras River and undergo several days of assaults until she escaped Monday morning, police reported.

The victim and the alleged perpetrator apparently had been in a dating relationship, according to police.

The 37-year-old woman told police she was kidnapped Friday and taken by force to an encampment on the river near North El Dorado Street. “He made her stay there and assaulted her several times,” the report stated.

After the woman got free Monday, she flagged down officers about a mile south at North California and East Sonoma streets. While there, the suspect walked by but ran when officers attempted to detain him. He eventually was taken into custody after a short food pursuit.

Officers arrested Anthony Mora, 42, on suspicion of kidnapping, resisting arrest and other charges. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
