Suspect assaults 71-year-old man, market employee during separate incidents

STOCKTON — A man assaulted a 71-year-old victim while trying to carjack him Thursday near downtown Stockton, police reported.

The Stockton Police Department said the victim was sitting in his vehicle about 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of South Center Street when an unknown man got into his car.

The suspect, Brian Stange, demanded the vehicle and began hitting the victim, police said.

Stange, 45, then ran away from the vehicle and was located by police as he left a nearby market.

Stockton police reported that Stange was detained after also getting into a fight with an employee at the market. Police learned Stange had tried to steal items from the store and assaulted an employee.

Stange was arrested on suspicion of carjacking and robbery.

There were no reports of injuries and police did not provide more information.

Police make arrests in morning burglary

STOCKTON — Police arrested two men in connection to an early morning burglary Thursday in north Stockton.

Officers responded to a burglary alarm about 7:52 a.m. Thursday in the 900 block of West March Lane, police said. There, they found that suspects had broken into the business and stolen several items.

Police said during their investigation they located a vehicle, which was suspected of being involved, that was parked in the 2400 block of Gareth Circle.

Officers were able to get one of the suspects to come out of a home and he was taken into custody, according to the Stockton Police Department. A second suspect, however, attempted to escape by jumping through a back window. Police set up a permitted and caught the suspect.

Anthony Alvarez, 25, and Jose Alvarez, 27, were arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and for outstanding warrants.

Officers were able to recover all the stolen items and returned them to the owner.
