STOCKTON — Authorities on Monday identified the victim of Friday afternoon’s fatal shooting in Stockton’s Weston Ranch neighborhood.

Juliese Anthony Batieste, 22, of Stockton was the city’s 23rd homicide of 2018, according to the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office.

The shooting occurred about 5:10 p.m. in the 1500 block of Ishi Goto Street. Batieste was taken by a private party to an area hospital, where he died from unspecified gunshot injuries, according to a Stockton police report.

The report indicated that homicide detectives believe the shooting was not a random act. But as of Monday afternoon, Police Department spokesman Officer Joe Silva said there were no updates to the investigation such as suspect information, a motive or the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
