STOCKTON — Friends of Swenson kicked off the Sounds of Swenson concert series Thursday evening with a show featuring Riley Jane Richmond, a student at Bear Creek High School, and local country music artist Austin James.

Friends of Swenson member Suzie Bowers says the monthly concert series is one of the latest ways the group is trying to raise funds for the 214-acre green space.

Bowers said each concert will have a different theme, with Thursday’s showcasing country music. The next show, scheduled for July 12, will feature classic rock with Lodi’s Acoustic Measures and the Atlanta-based Mystic Moon.

The Aug. 12 concert features Levi Huffman, along with the Lopez Brothers Band; the Sweet Taunts play the blues Sept. 13 along with an act yet to be determined.

In addition to music, local food vendors will be offering up their wares, including wood-fired pizzas by David’s Pizza and barbecue provided by Mike Linker of Victory Grill. Concertgoers can also bring their own food.

Proceeds from the food sales will be donated to the Sounds of Swenson. Parking will be available in the Lincoln High School parking lot across the street from the park as well.

Organizers also are looking for event sponsors. Those interested can call (209) 649-2504 or go to soundsofswenson.com.
