LODI — After pulling over a vehicle speeding away from a Friday night shooting only to discover the driver had been shot, police returned to the east Lodi scene where they caught up with a teenage suspect and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder.

About 10:45 p.m. Friday, officers were in the vicinity of South Central Avenue and East Pine Street when they heard several gunshots and observed a white vehicle with its headlights off fleeing the area, according to a report.

The officers pursued the vehicle toward downtown Lodi until it stopped in the 100 block of North School Street, about a half-mile away. They initiated a high-risk stop and while detaining the driver, they first realized he had been shot. The driver was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for an unspecified, non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police reported.

Meanwhile, officers responded to the original area of the shooting where they located and arrested Jose Reyes, 18, of Lodi. In addition to suspicion of attempted murder, Reyes was charged with suspicion of shooting at an occupied vehicle and gang enhancements, according to police.
