STOCKTON — A pedestrian died as the result of being struck by a hit-and-run vehicle Saturday evening in east Stockton, police reported.

The victim, identified only as a man in his 60s pending notification of next of kin, was crossing East Main Street near Searchlight Avenue when he was struck about 7:24 p.m. by a vehicle traveling westbound. Police have no description of the vehicle but did report it fled south on Searchlight without stopping at the scene.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. The Stockton Police Department’s traffic unit responded to the scene to investigate.

Sunday afternoon, department spokesman Officer Joe Silva said there still was no description of the vehicle to release to the public.

Also Sunday, a makeshift memorial was placed on the sidewalk north of the crash scene.
