STOCKTON — The Reinvent South Stockton Coalition will join forces with the city on Saturday for its second annual summit, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium.
Workshops will be conducted on a range of issues important to residents of Stockton, with topics to include education, health, housing, economic and community development and violence prevention.
Reinvent South Stockton and other community organizations, along with the city, sought to have Stockton designated as a Promise Zone by the federal government.
The Obama administration bypassed Stockton as a Promise Zone in June. The Promise Zone initiative is intended to boost job and school opportunities, and reduce crime, in some of the nation’s poorest communities.
Nonetheless, efforts continue to develop a plan to address Stockton’s challenges. Saturday’s Reinvent South Stockton Coalition Summit is part of that work.
Childcare and translation services will be provided for attendees Saturday. The event is free but those planning to attend are encouraged to register ahead of time.
